A Griffith teen will be $800 poorer after receiving a fine for doing a burnout directly in front of a police car.
About 9:10 pm on Saturday, 26 April, police were patrolling near the Woolworths covered carpark in Banna Avenue, Griffith, when a white Ford Ranger in front of them turned left into Crossing Street.
Police will allege that in making the turn, the driver accelerated harshly, causing the rear wheels to lose traction (a burnout) and slide towards the driver’s side. This lasted for about five to 10 seconds.
Police activated their lights and stopped the Ranger, whose 18-year-old driver could offer no excuse.
The driver was issued an infringement notice for operating a vehicle to cause the driving wheels to undergo sustained loss of traction.
This carries a fine of $818 and three licence demerit points.
