Thanks to customer demand, Wagga Wagga’s The Oakroom Kitchen and Bar has launched an all-day dining experience.

The Townhouse Hotel’s restaurant launched its all-day breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks menu on Thursday (13 September).

“We’re excited to launch The Oakroom all day,” said the Townhouse Hotel general manager, Andrew Buik.

“We’re keen to get the doors open, get people out on our deck, and enjoy the spring sunshine.

“We wanted to try something different by being open across these services.

“The chefs get to cook different food, and we’ve employed some new people, which means more flexible rosters.”

Andrew said the budget-friendly, varied all-day menu had more intricate dishes and simple and quick items.

“For breakfast, we’re headlining an okra and eggs Benedict with our house-made hollandaise sauce, and we’re also doing the usual breakfast favourites, including a big breakfast, focaccia, croissants, fruit salad, muesli and different lighter options,” he said.

“We’ve got some kingfish, grilled halloumi, burrata with heirloom tomatoes, and garlic-grilled tiger prawns for lunch. Our headline act is our chef’s special beer batter recipe for the King George whiting fish and chips.

“We feel that there haven’t been many restaurant options for lunch in Wagga – there are plenty of pubs and cafes. We wanted to strike that spot of being The Oakroom restaurant that we are at lunchtime.”

The bar will also add new cocktails and wines to its collection.

The general manager said the restaurant’s head chef, Tom Svetec, had been part of The Oakroom since the beginning.

“His exceptional standards and creativity in the kitchen are the backbone of our great food.”

Andrew said The Oakroom experimented with offering lunch before the pandemic but discontinued the service due to a change in the kitchen roster.

“We have people pop in the front door all the time, asking, ‘Can we just grab some lunch?'” Andrew said.

“It’s always been a reminder there for us that it’s something people are looking for. And we felt like we wanted to rejuvenate The Oakroom a little bit.

“We’ve got many long-term staff, and we’re all keen to further our careers and knowledge.

Andrew said the all-day dining was a long-term addition to The Oakroom and the Townhouse Hotel. In the past, the hotel sent the guests elsewhere for coffee and lunch.

“It will complement our hotel operations, and we’re proud of what we do in terms of food and beverage,” he said.

“We’ve been 12 years here at the Oakroom, and we’ve always tried to offer a really quality experience.

“This has been a real spark for all of us, from the staff in the kitchen to the front of the house.
