Wagga and Griffith have well-equipped pools that are great for lap swimming, but the Riverina’s two biggest cities are waterslide deprived.
But did you know there are five smaller towns in the Riverina that have waterslides? They all operate with different times and costs and restrictions also vary. We’ve provided you with a handy guide of where and when you can go to beat the summer heat.
Narrandera
Lake Talbot Water Park has had three waterslides in operation since 2019. They include two mirror-reversed speed slides incorporating special effects inside the enclosed tubes.
There’s also an open reverse-banked ‘SuperJet’ part with translucent sections.
This season, it’s been open since 5 October, from 6:30 to 8 am, then 10 am to 7 pm on weekdays and 10 am to 7 pm on Saturday, Sunday and public holidays. The slides cost $3 for five passes, $6 for 10 passes and $12 for 20 passes.
Entry to the facility is $5 for sliders/swimmers and $3 for spectators.
Leeton
Leeton Regional Aquatic Centre’s nine-metre-high twin-ring waterslide was launched last summer and became an instant hit.
It reopened earlier this month and became more accessible; the council has reduced the ride height restriction to 90 cm (down from 120 cm) in an effort to enable more kids to experience the slides. There’s also a kids splash park at the facility.
The slides are free to use and are open from 4:30 to 5:30 pm on weekdays and 1:30 to 4:30 pm on weekends during normal operating hours, subject to weather and patronage. It costs $4 for an individual to enter the centre, or $15 for a family.
Junee
The Junee Junction Recreation and Aquatic Centre is remarkably well-equipped for a facility in a town of just 6000 people.
Established in 2020, it has a big waterslide which will reopen this Saturday (16 November).
It’s only open on weekends from noon to 2 pm until school holidays start, when it can be used every day of the week during the same time span.
Children must be a minimum four years of age and confident competent swimmers to ride it. The waterslide is also available for private hire.
It costs $5 to ride the slide for as many times as you want during that two-hour window. Entry to the facility costs $7 for adults and $5 for concession.
Temora
Temora Municipal Pool has operated its eight-metre-high T-Town Twister waterslide since 2020.
It’ll be reopened for the summer this Saturday (16 November) and like in Junee, operate on weekends only until the school holidays start, when it will be open every day.
The hours of operation are 11 am to 1 pm and 3 to 5 pm. It costs $5 per person to ride the slides as many times as you want per two-hour session. Entry to the pool is $5.50 for adults and $4.50 for children.
West Wyalong
Holland Park Pool features not only a waterslide but a diving board, hydro play pool and aqua inflatable slide. The main slide is currently closed for maintenance, but we are informed it should be open within the next week.
When it opens, it can be used from noon to 5 pm on weekends. It costs $4 to ride the slide as many times as you want during that five-hour period. Riders must be at least one-metre tall.
Entry to the pool costs $5 for adults and $4 for children.
Keep an eye out on the Holland Park Pool Facebook page for slide updates.
