Injured cows have had to be euthanised after a crash in Hillston last week.

At about 12:50 pm on Wednesday (17 September), a 22-year-old man was driving a road train containing 104 head of cattle on Kidman Way.

Police will allege that as the driver was negotiating a bend, he overcorrected, causing the trailers to slip down an embankment and roll, shearing the front trailer from the prime mover.

As a result, the Kidman Way highway was blocked in both directions for several hours.

Emergency services attended and police assisted in euthanising injured cattle.

SES and Local Land Services also assisted with cutting off panels from the trailer to release trapped cattle.

A number of cattle remained unaccounted for after authorities departed from the scene.

Police will further allege they identified six logbook breaches and issued the driver with infringement notices and a negligent driving charge.

The prime mover and three trailers were issued with red label major defect notices and towed away.
