An Albury-based organisation has been named 2023 Riverina Murray Business of the Year in recognition of its all-around excellence.
Business NSW awarded Mercy Connect the Outstanding Community Organisation and Excellence in Innovation gongs at a gala awards event at the Albury Entertainment Centre in front of more than 300 business leaders on Friday, 13 October.
Mercy Connect is a not-for-profit Catholic organisation delivering a range of innovative services and programs registered under the National Disability Insurance Scheme, including supporting adults, children and older people with a disability to live independently and be actively involved in their community.
“This incredible acknowledgment recognises the compassionate, innovative and mercy-inspired services offered, each day, by our committed front-line staff, administrative and management teams, as Mercy Connect continues to support people in need to live fulfilled lives,” said Mercy Connect CEO Trent Dean.
“Mercy Connect gratefully accepted these awards on behalf of all the community organisations that are delivering essential and critical services across the Riverina-Murray region. It provides us all with a platform to promote and advance our various causes and work as we bring uplift to our communities.
“It is getting increasingly harder for not-for-profit, community organisations to operate in our challenging economic environment, so Mercy Connect encourages all local businesses to identify meaningful ways that they can offer their support, including through donation, sponsorship, or volunteerism.”
Regional director of Business NSW Riverina Murray Serena Hardwick said Mercy Connect’s innovation in the development of their nationally recognised VR training to help carers understand and empathise with those with intellectual disabilities was one of their significant achievements over the past 12 months.
“The Riverina Murray Business Awards on Friday night really amplified how truly diverse, innovative and entrepreneurial our region is.
“The finalists of the awards are not only showcasing their achievements as a business but also showcasing our capability and capacity as a region to do business and invest in.”
The 2023 Riverina Murray Business Award winners will now represent the region at the State Business Awards to be held in late November.
