The $5.6 million upgrade to Dobney Avenue and Pearson Street remains on track for completion by the end of June despite the wet start to the season.

The crew milled out the existing road pavement on Pearson in 100-m segments on alternate sides of the road, starting at the Edward Street roundabout end.

The last 100-m section of the thick asphalt base courses was completed on 8 June.

The night work for Pearson Street began on 19 May and the Dobney Avenue section of the project was completed in May.

Wagga City Council director of infrastructure service Warren Faulkner said the work being carried out on the base course at the two roundabouts near Bunnings is expected to be finished in the second last week of June, weather permitting.

“Both roundabouts will be closed to traffic from 6 pm to 6 am as the works are carried out with detours in place. Motorists should expect delays and plan for them in advance if possible,” he said.

“The last phase will involve laying the final seal along the length of Pearson Street and at the roundabouts over four-night shifts.

“I think motorists have already noticed an improvement in the ride quality of the road since the night works began and that will only get better once the whole project is complete.”

The upgrade covers the stretch of Pearson Street and Dobney Avenue from Sturt Highway.

It also includes the two roundabouts adjacent to Bunnings.

Dobney Avenue and Pearson Street are two of the busiest roads in the city’s sub-arterial network.

The existing surface of the road is being reshaped to improve road users’ safety and ride quality.

The roads’ renewal also improves environmental factors like noise reduction and surface water flow.

The upgrade of the roads has only taken place at night to minimise inconvenience to the adjoining businesses and motorists.

The roads will be reopened to traffic during the daytime.

The Australian Government funded the $5.6 million project in association with the NSW Government and Wagga City Council.

The council is also currently upgrading Dunns Road, Holbrook Road and two sections of Red Hill Road.
