A childcare worker in the Southern Riverina has been charged after allegedly pouring water on a child.

On Thursday 5 December 2024, officers attached to Murray River Police District commenced investigations following reports a five-year-old girl had been assaulted at an early learning centre in Deniliquin.

It will be alleged that in November 2024, a female worker at the centre poured water from a drink bottle onto the child.

Following inquiries, a 47-year-old woman was issued a Court Attendance Notice on Saturday (6 September), charged with assaulting a school student while attending school.

She is due to appear before Deniliquin Local Court on Wednesday 12 November 2025.

A 27-year-old female worker from the centre was also charged in relation to the same matter last month and remains before the courts.

It will be alleged that on two separate occasions in November 2024, the child had water sprayed on her from a garden hose.

The 27-year-old was issued a Court Attendance Notice in August and charged with two counts of assaulting a school student while attending school.

She is set to appear before Deniliquin Local Court on Wednesday 15 October 2025.
