Police are appealing for assistance from the public after a man’s body was found beside the Newell Highway in the southern Riverina yesterday.
Officers attached to Murray River Police District were called to the scene 5 km south of Jerilderie, at about 12:30 pm on Tuesday (17 June), where the man’s body was found. He’d suffered multiple injuries.
While he is yet to be formally identified, he is believed to be in his 40s.
A crime scene has been established, and an investigation is now underway, assisted by specialist officers attached to the Crash Investigation Unit.
The road was temporarily closed in both directions on Tuesday afternoon but is now open again.
Anyone who was travelling along that section of the Newell Highway – about 5 km south of Jerilderie – between midnight Monday (16 June) and midday Tuesday (17 June) and has dashcam footage, or any information they believe relevant, is urged to come forward and contact Finley Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
