Murrumbidgee Police are appealing for the driver of a blue car captured by newly released CCTV footage to come forward to assist in their investigation of a suspected hit-and-run death in Griffith last year.
Argen Kuni, 34, was found by emergency services suffering multiple injuries on Watkins Avenue, near Grange Close, shortly after 4:20 am on Monday 28 April 2025. Paramedics attempted CPR, however he died at the scene.
“He had only recently come to Australia, where he’d sought work in a factory in Hanwood,” acting superintendent Tim Clark told a press conference on Wednesday (11 March).
“He left his wife and two son in the Solomon Islands. He was sending money to them to fund the building of a new home which unfortunately he didn’t get to see.”
Mr Clark said Mr Kuni had left a party on foot at about 2 to 2:30 am and police believe he was either walking home or to another location on a poorly lit road when struck. A postmortem has revealed that the impact of the vehicle was the cause of death.
“It’s simply a cowardly act, to hit someone and not stop and not render assistance. There’s no doubt the driver of that vehicle knew that they hit someone at that time,” Mr Clark said.
“Police have seized a number of motor vehicles which have since been eliminated. Some recent CCTV which we are now releasing shows a blue sedan or hatchback driving on the road shortly before the crash. We are appealing for the driver of that sedan to please come forward as we believe that driver may be able to assist us with our investigation.”
Mr Clark said he was also appealing to any other witness or any anyone who might know about the incident to come forward, even if they had only heard rumours.
“It’s not too late to come forward,” he said.
The acting superintendent confirmed that nobody had been charged in relation to the incident as yet.
Margaret Kuni, the sister of Argen, said her family desperately wanted an answer as to what happened to her brother.
“Argen was a humble and loving family man. He came to Australia from the Solomon Islands to work and provide a better life for his wife and two sons back home. He was sending money home to fund the build of his family home, which he never got to enjoy. He was also supporting our broader family, financially.
“His passing has left a mark in our hearts and he is really missed. We urge anyone who has information to come forward … we want justice for my brother.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
