Finley and surrounding areas will soon see a boost to essential health care services and health worker accommodation.
The $25 million Finley Health Service Redevelopment is set to move forward with construction expected to start in late 2025.
Murray MP Helen Dalton hopes that the redevelopments will address shortcomings in regional communities and fill “desperately needed vacant health care positions”.
“I support all efforts to address shortcomings in remote, rural and regional communities and hope key worker accommodation units will be an opportunity to fill desperately needed vacant health care positions, providing improved health care services in the greater Finley area,” she said.
“It is essential that health in rural and remote NSW is not neglected and people in the bush receive the same level of care as their city cousins; many communities are currently begging for quality health services, and this is a step in the right direction.”
The redevelopment came after the NSW Government’s consultations with health professionals, Aboriginal community representatives and the Local Health Advisory Committee. This includes new and refurbished clinical spaces to support the communities in Finley, Berrigan, Barooga, Tocumwal and Jerilderie.
Minister for Regional Health Ryan Park said a number of facilities would be improved, including new inpatient rooms and upgrades to medical imaging units, emergency department and staff facilities upgrades.
“The expanded and upgraded range of health services will include new inpatient rooms and the hospital’s first ultrasound service to ensure Finley and surrounding communities have access to enhanced health care facilities, closer to home,” Mr Park said.
“This builds on the recent delivery of new key worker accommodation in Finley which is providing health care professionals with a modern, safe and comfortable place to live which is close to work.”
Following the six key health worker accommodation units built in Finley last October, the Minns Labor Government will invest an additional $200.1 million to build more accommodation to support the Key Worker Accommodation Program.
Health care workers in Griffith, Deniliquin and Lake Cargelligo will also benefit from a $23 million investment to deliver more housing in the Murrumbidgee Local Health District.
