For Wagga Wagga Base Hospital allied health assistant Claire Green, no two days are the same, which is why she likes her job so much.

Claire works for the physiotherapy and occupational therapy team and loves the wide range of work and working with her team.

“I’ve been lucky enough to have many opportunities to learn new skills and be exposed to almost every part of the hospital environment,” Claire said.

“The culture in our team is also really amazing. We all work so well together, and everyone has each other’s back.

“It really makes the hard days easier knowing we can all lean on each other,” she said.

Claire works in many areas of the hospital, including inpatient wards, rehab/GEM wards and outpatient clinics.

She can also be spotted in the hydrotherapy and cardiac and pulmonary rehab units.

The allied health assistant is also involved with Murrumbidgee Local Health District’s (MLHD) school-based trainees who are completing their Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance as part of their HSC.

She believes patients are able to stay close to home due to the scope of services provided by allied health assistants and that the services are an asset to the region.

“We deliver an exceptionally high level of care and treatment that our patients need. It is very beneficial to them because we can rally to provide an individualised program and I feel really grateful to play even a very small part in someone’s journey, especially during what can be a very trying time,” Claire said.

Claire is set to complete more study in the near future. She is looking forward to diversifying her skills which will help her to take on a teaching role at TAFE to teach the allied health assistance course.

The health worker relocated to Wagga from Victoria five years ago and said she was amazed by the sense of community pride in the city.

“I feel like a local now and have been told about many of the hidden treasures in the area, which has made exploring on the weekends really enjoyable,” Claire said.

Claire is training to run her first half marathon, which will be on the Gold Coast in 2023.

MLHD wished Claire good luck in a statement, which read: “You are already a winner in our eyes!”.
