Cannabis, meth, and rifle allegedly seized in Riverina police operation

A 57-year-old man has been charged with 10 drug and firearms offences following a search at a home in the south of the Riverina.

Police said officers attached to the Murray River Police District Rural Crime Prevention Team (RCPT) executed a search warrant at a home in Perricoota Street, Womboota, about 74 km southeast of Deniliquin, at about 11:15 am on Wednesday (28 June).

Officers allegedly seized a rifle, which had allegedly been reported stolen, as well as ammunition, cannabis, methylamphetamine and a mobile phone. The items have been sent for forensic examination.

The man was arrested at the scene and taken to Moama Police Station, where he was charged with 10 offences.

The charges include possessing an unauthorised firearm, using/supplying a stolen firearm or firearm part, acquiring a firearm with no licence/permit, possessing ammunition without holding a licence/permit/authority, unauthorised person fail to surrender the firearm, receiving property stolen outside NSW, two counts of possessing prohibited drugs, not keeping firearm safely-not pistol/prohibited firearm and acquiring ammunition for a firearm without licence or permit.

The man has been refused bail and appeared before Wagga Wagga Local Court on Thursday (27 June).
