The Riverina Regional Library’s (RRL) mobile library has made its first journey to Bland Shire.
With the latest books, DVDs, audiobooks and other resources at its disposal, the RRL mobile is offering residents of Ungarie, Weethalle, Tallimba and Barmedman the chance to foster a love for reading with its unique library service.
The library made its first trip on Monday (1 July) and will travel to Ungarie and Weethalle fortnightly, and Barmedman and Tallimba monthly.
RRL Manager Karen Wendt said the mobile library would provide residents with convenient access to books, digital resources, and educational programs.
“Bland Shire residents will be delighted that the mobile library offers all the same services of a static library branch, as well as a hub for community connection.
“The mobile library makes a big difference to the communities it visits.
“The expansion of the mobile library service into the towns and villages of Bland Shire provides a cost-effective means to extend the reach of library services into communities who need it most.”
The mobile library will offer a wide range of services, including:
- A diverse and current collection of books for all ages and interests
- Access to digital resources such as eBooks and eAudiobooks
- Educational programs and workshops
- Internet access and computing facilities
- Friendly and knowledgeable staff to assist with research and information needs.
The new mobile library stops will be located near local public schools, but the service is open to all shire residents.
“The mobile library plays a vital role in communities where maintaining permanent buildings is uneconomic and where many government and commercial services have been discontinued,” Ms Wednt said.
“It fulfils an important role as an information centre and distribution point for local and regional library resources.”
Bland Shire Mayor Brian Monaghan said he was excited for the shire to partner with RRL, stating that the mobile library was a vital service.
“We are excited to partner with Riverina Regional Library to extend the reach of our library services,” he said.
“This mobile library will serve as a vital resource, especially for our village communities, fostering a love of reading and lifelong learning among residents of all ages.”
