Best&Less Wagga was forced to close its doors and evacuate its customers today after a person within the store suffered a severe medical incident just after midday on Monday (1 September).
The incident resulted in multiple police vehicles, ambulances and fire trucks being dispatched to the scene, blocking off one of Baylis Street’s two road lanes.
Paramedics and police were at the scene for just over half an hour, with members of the public forced to steer clear of the popular clothing store.
NSW Ambulance confirmed that there was a medical incident at the store but declined to provide further information.
Onlooker Deanna Minogue said it was a sudden and shocking experience hearing sirens and seeing several emergency service vehicles called in.
“We were walking down Baylis Street, just outside of the Sturt Mall, when suddenly we heard all these emergency sirens,” she said.
“We saw a lot of emergency personnel walk into Best&Less. As they were going, customers were coming out.
“We obviously didn’t know very much, but it was quite concerning to see that many police cars, ambulances and fire trucks. It was quite concerning.
“We just hope that everything and everyone is ok.”

Emergency services left the store and surrounding area by 1 pm.
Best&Less informed customers that it would remain closed until 2 pm, leaving a message in the storefront window.
The condition of the person taken to Wagga Hospital is unknown.
