Ashmont man charged following alleged theft of Volkswagen and Audi on same morning

A 22-year-old man has been charged in relation to several incidents, including the alleged theft of a Volkswagen ute, Audi SUV and jewellery in Wagga.

On Wednesday morning (14 May), police were called to a house on Spring Street, Wagga Wagga following reports of a break and enter.

Officers attached to Riverina Police District attended and were told several pieces of jewellery had allegedly been stolen from the home overnight.

Police established a crime scene and commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

At about 3:30 pm the same day, police were called to a car park on Baretta Lane, Wagga Wagga, following reports of a missing vehicle.

Police were told a Volkswagen ute was allegedly stolen from a business.

Inquiries commenced into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

As a result of the police investigation, the vehicle was located about 8:30 pm at a car park on Baylis Street, Wagga Wagga.

It was seized for forensic examination.

Following further inquiries, about 11:45 am Thursday (15 May), police attended an address on Connorton Avenue, Ashmont, where they arrested a 22-year-old man.

Police searched the property and located an amount of ammunition that was seized for forensic examination.

The man was taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station, where he was charged with two counts of taking and driving a conveyance without the consent of the owner and breaking and entering a house.

He was refused bail to appear before Wagga Wagga Local Court on Friday (16 May).

Police will allege in court the 22-year-old man was also involved in the theft of an Audi SUV from an address on Bradman Way, Boorooma, the same morning.
