A Leeton man and woman have been charged with a string of property, fraud and drug offences following an investigation into the alleged theft of a handbag from a parked Mercedes.
Police allege a woman’s handbag was stolen from inside her Mercedes, which was parked outside an address on Kurrajong Avenue, Leeton, on Saturday 30 May.
It is alleged a large sum of cash was later withdrawn from the woman’s bank account and her stolen debit cards were used to make unauthorised purchases at retail outlets around Leeton.
As part of their investigation, police executed a search warrant at a Lightwood Street address about 9:50 am on Wednesday 3 June.
A 31-year-old man was arrested at the property on an outstanding warrant and taken to Leeton Police Station.
Police allege a search of the home uncovered the woman’s stolen mobile phone, along with items allegedly purchased using the stolen debit cards.
Officers also allegedly located two mobile phones, a .22 calibre round of ammunition, eight grams of cannabis leaf, one gram of methylamphetamine and two grams of cannabis seed.
A 29-year-old woman living at the address was questioned by police and later issued with a Future Court Attendance Notice.
She was charged with two counts of dishonestly obtaining property by deception, two counts of goods in custody, possessing a prohibited drug and possessing ammunition without holding a licence.
The 31-year-old man was refused bail and appeared before the Bail Division Court.

Strange, I thought city-based elites like Labor's Communications Minister Anika Wells should fix it. View
