Kathleen and Allan Paulson have made it their mission to bring more Christmas spirit to Baylis Street.
The pair said they had adorned themselves with all things Christmas and sat on one of the benches on the main street to “cheer people up” and “make it more like Christmas”.
“The council have done very little to make it look more Christmassy,” Kathleen said.
“The shops haven’t decorated their windows how like they normally do, and there are not many people around.
“If they don’t decorate their windows, it’s not going to encourage people to come to do their Christmas shopping.”
Kathleen said being dressed up in the Christmas spirit had “worked” as they had a lot of people stop to talk to them.
“So many people have stopped and said how pretty and Christmassy we look and ‘It’s nice to see that somebody’s got the Christmas spirit,” Kathleen said.
Allan said a lot of people had taken photographs of them as well.
Kathleen’s Christmas message for people is that “everything will be better for the new year”.
“Please try and be happy because things will get better,” she said.
Allan says that coming out of COVID-19, “everything will pick up again, and things will improve”.
The couple moved to Wagga from Sydney in 2000.
Wagga Wagga City Council has launched its Christmas program A Very Wagga Christmas ahead of the festive season which features large-scale light installations, decorations throughout the CBD, and the travelling Christmas trail featuring Santa and Mrs Claus.
