On behalf of the Mayor, councillors and all staff at Wagga Wagga City Council, we wish everyone in Wagga and our villages a very merry Christmas.

We are especially grateful to all who have to work over this festive season, including health professionals, vets, first responders, small-business owners and our wonderful hospitality staff.

Thank you for keeping our region ticking over these holidays; and a special thanks to their families, who pay the ultimate sacrifice for not having their loved ones near at Christmas. Your service to our community is greatly appreciated.

Please be safe and enjoy this special time with friends and family. Hold your loved ones near and take a moment to reflect on your achievements this year, great and small.

A poem by Cr Davies

At the edge of the Wollundry Lagoon,
We’ve gathered here tonight,
To wish you all a merry Christmas,
We hope it’s festive, we hope it’s bright.

For those who are lucky enough,
To call Wagga Wagga their home,
We know that Santa will be wearing thongs,
When he comes to roam.

The kookaburras sing in loud chorus,
Along the Murrumbidgee banks,
As children wake early to open presents,
With parents reminding them to give thanks.

Indeed we have so much,
To be truly grateful for,
The community’s generosity and spirit,
Is what we have come to adore.

Volunteers taking the elderly,
For bikes rides across the city,
Green thumbs to keep our gardens
And green spaces looking pretty.

For those doing it tough,
In these hard economic times,
We have kind people to cook,
And non-perishable food items in lines.

And for those who have to work,
To help animals and humans in poor fates,
We are thankful for your devotion,
And the sacrifice you make.

Thank you to our Council staff,
For keeping our city pristine,
So many projects and jobs keep happening,
All behind the scenes.

To all the councillors and Mayor,
We continue to be a great team,
Championing for this region to grow,
And putting forward your visions and dreams.

The spirit of Christmas,
Is here and alive,
So we make a toast tonight
to a stupendous 2025.
