A female driver in her 20s was trapped in her vehicle and then freed by emergency personnel after a two-car crash on the Sturt Highway in Sandigo near Narrandera on Thursday morning (17 July).

A spokesperson for NSW Ambulance told Region four ambulances arrived on the scene at 7:30 am after being informed of the accident.

The female driver sustained facial, neck and shoulder injuries and was taken to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital.

The other vehicle, a ute, was flipped over and landed on its roof. A male driver in his 40s suffered minor injuries but was able to get out of the vehicle by himself. He was also taken to Wagga Base.

Both patients are in a stable condition.

The highway reopened in both directions just before 3 pm after being closed for six hours. During that time, all eastbound vehicles were diverted via the Newell Highway and Canola Way to Coolamon and then onto the Olympic Highway to return to the Sturt Highway.

The accident is being investigated by Murrumbidgee District Police.
