Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) has announced that a baby has been born in the new Griffith Base Hospital for the first time, as the facility now welcomes patients, visitors and staff.
Delilah was born on Wednesday (25 June) to mum Rochelle O’Connell.
“She joined the first babies who transferred from the old maternity unit to the new hospital, including baby Ellie [daughter of Emma and Mark Cadorin],” MLHD said in a social media post.
“What a special time for Griffith, and something for all the families to remember.”

The revamped hospital includes a new day surgery unit, an expanded medical imaging department, more inpatient beds and mobile cardiac monitoring units.
All hospital departments opened on Thursday (26 June), except the renal unit, which opens on Friday.
The health services across the campus, except dental, are now located in the new hospital.
The 24-hour emergency department is open as usual. Signage inside the hospital’s main entry will direct people to the emergency department and maternity unit’s new location in the new hospital.

Visitors are advised to use the same car park at the front of the hospital and to use the existing main hospital entrance to access the new facility.
MLHD has advised that these community-based (non-hospital) health services will continue as normal:
- Community Health will remain in the same location in Yambil St, Griffith and relocate to the campus in late 2025
- The Transitional Aged Care Program and Aged Care Assessment Services will remain in the same temporary location in Kokoora Street, Griffith and relocate to the campus in 2026
- Community Mental Health Drug and Alcohol services will continue to operate from its current permanent location in Yambil Street, Griffith
- NSW Pathology Collection Centre, operating from its current permanent location in Banna Avenue, Griffith.
