NSW Governor the Honourable Margaret Beazley and her husband Dennis Wilson have announced they will be visiting the Riverina this coming week, a trip that includes shooting hoops with young basketballers in Wagga and a visit to the artisan store Coolamon Cheese Co.
The pair will travel to Hillston, Murrin Bridge, Lake Cargelligo, West Wyalong, Lake Cowal, Coolamon, Junee and Wagga Wagga from Wednesday 26 February to Saturday 1 March.
“Dennis and I look forward to hearing from local people about their achievements and initiatives, including the challenges they face,” the Governor said.
“These communities really do ‘punch above their weight’ in areas such as agriculture, land care, manufacturing, and community health and well-being.”
A state governor is an apolitical representative of the King who performs ceremonial roles and oversees the workings of the elected government.
In Hillston, the Governor and Mr Wilson will visit Mitolo Family Farms, which has brought quality produce to Australian families for over half a century. They will also hear from Carrathool Shire councillors, the Hillston Creative Council and Hillston Lions Club members.
In Murrin Bridge, the Governor and Mr Wilson will learn about the Local Aboriginal Land Council’s care of Country and view the activities of Murrin Bridge Pre-School.

After meeting with staff and volunteers at Lake Cargelligo’s Multipurpose Health Service, the Governor and Mr Wilson will tour Durotank, a leading manufacturer of bulk fuel storage tanks, before joining young people involved in Down the Track Youth Enterprises’ programs.
In West Wyalong, the Governor and Mr Wilson will meet representatives of local patronage organisations at a community afternoon tea. They will also visit West Wyalong District Hospital and West Wyalong High School and attend a Bland Shire Council Civic Reception and a dinner held in their honour.
Their visit to Lake Cowal will include an opportunity to learn more about the work of staff and volunteers at Lake Cowal Conservation Centre and a tour of Evolution Cowal Gold Operations.
A tour of artisan cheesemaker Coolamon Cheese, with representatives from the Junee community, will precede a meeting with Junee Shire councillors and a Vice Regal Community Reception, hosted by the Governor and Mr Wilson, in Junee.
Viewing the collections of Junee Broadway Museum is also part of their packed four-day program.
Rounding out the visit, the Governor and Mr Wilson will ‘shoot some hoops’ in Wagga Wagga with young basketball athletes from the Southern Sports Academy.
