Transport for NSW is set to carry out essential repairs to the road-over-rail temporary bridge at Wallendbeen.
The essential repairs will be carried out on the bridge on the Burley Griffin Way at Wallendbeen after it was damaged by a truck crash in mid-December last year.
“We’ll be working at the Burley Griffin Way intersections of Silo Road and Morrisons Hill Road for up to six days between Tuesday 28 January and Sunday 2 February,” a Transport for NSW spokesperson said.
“The repair work will be carried out between 7 am and 6 pm on five of the six days.
“An earlier start on one of the days will be required. We will update nearby residents about the early start.”
Depending on the weather conditions the repair works are set to be carried out at various times during the proposed dates. Days with high winds forecast will influence the timing of the work.
The spokesperson said Transport for NSW would ensure every effort was made to minimise impacts to the local community and rail operations.
Burley Griffin Way between Stockinbingal and Wallendbeen will be reopened to traffic on Sunday 2 February, weather permitting.
The community is advised of changed traffic conditions during the essential repair work, with the intersections at Burley Griffin Way and Silo and Morrisons Hill roads being closed until work is completed.
A large crane will be used to remove the bridge from the rail corridor and reinstall it after the repair is complete.
The crane will need to remain onsite to minimise the time needed to complete the repair work.
Motorists are reminded that various detours will be in place to access Wallendbeen and to allow extra travel time of up to five minutes.
Motorists and locals are to be aware of road closures, detours, traffic control, workers and vehicles and noise from machinery and tools.
Construction of the new Wallendbeen Bridge structure is progressing and remains on schedule for completion early this year, weather permitting.
Transport for NSW said it would keep the community informed when a timeline was confirmed for the completion of the road approaches that would allow for the new bridge to open to traffic.
