Narrandera has received key worker accommodation units in an effort to assist with the recruitment and retention of health workers in the region.

Three units were delivered to Narrandera Health Service as part of the NSW Government’s $45.3 million Key Worker Accommodation Program (delivered in partnership with Health Infrastructure NSW), with staff expected to move into the accommodation before the end of the year. Murrumbidgee Health District (MLHD) is one of three regional local health districts to benefit from the program.

Narrandera is the fourth site in NSW to receive prefabricated units and modelled on a prototype unit completed earlier this year. The installation of the units is underway off Adams Street.

Minister for Regional Health Ryan Park said it was great to see the key worker accommodation program being implemented across the MLHD, with Narrandera benefiting from the initiative.

“Recruitment and retention of staff in rural and regional hospitals is a priority for the Minns Labor Government and we are committing a further $200.1 million to increase key health worker accommodation in the state,” said Mr Park.

“Securing suitable accommodation in regional areas can be difficult, so the new units will assist to remove one of the barriers preventing health care workers looking at making the move to a regional town to live and work.”

The new key worker accommodation units are set to help retain health staff in the region.

The modern and fit-for-purpose units will be fully furnished and self-contained. Each unit features a light-filled living and dining area, a modern kitchen, a bedroom with an ensuite, an internal laundry and a screened verandah. One of the three units has also been designed to support accessibility needs.

Secure access to the units will be provided and there will also be landscaping surrounding the units.

“Narrandera is such a great community, and with the Murrumbidgee River and natural beauty of the town, health care workers should really consider it as a potential place to live and work, especially with this new accommodation available, ” said Labor spokesperson for Cootamundra, Stephen Lawrence MLC.

“The accommodation units are a positive attribute to the local hospital and the town of Narrandera, and we are looking forward to move-in day soon.”
