Parents and carers can now learn more about navigating online safety with young people.
Wagga Wagga City Council (WWCC) is set to host an information session featuring numerous local support services to help parents and carers get the facts to have respectful discussions with the younger generation.
WWCC said its community development team regularly received enquiries from parents and carers seeking information about how to keep the youth in their care safe online.
Youth and community development officer Mel Fattore said WWCC, in consultation with local services and education support workers, developed the information session to help address this knowledge gap.
“The evening information session is designed to bring parents, carers and the services that locally work in this space together to have a conversation and provide an after-hours opportunity for parents and carers to seek advice,” Ms Fattore said.
“The session will help parents and carers to understand the support services available in our city for them and their young people, as well as gain the tools to speak with young people about safely engaging online.
“To help make it accessible for parents and carers with caring responsibilities of children and young people, we have arranged a family-friendly movie, snacks and supervised activities in the adjoining room.”
Riverina Police District youth liaison officers, clinical psychologists and community engagement officers from local services and high schools will be presenting at the session and be available for questions on the night.
The free information session is for parents and carers over 18. The event on Tuesday 22 October will be held from 5 pm to 7 pm in the council meeting room at Wagga Wagga Civic Centre.

The session is part of the community training series for 2024 presented by Wagga Wagga City Council.
