The Wagga Wagga Picnic Races has proudly been supporting local charity Country Hope for the better part of two decades.
Bringing in thousands of spectators and millions of dollars over the journey, organisers of the popular family event have continued to show their pride in supporting children in need of medical support.
“We’re proud to have the Wagga Wagga Picnic Races returning to the Murrumbidgee Turf Club this Saturday 5 October, kicking off at midday,” Country Hope committee member and Wagga Motors sales manager Thomas Buggy said.
“It’s going to be another fantastic day with plenty for everyone in the family to enjoy including live music from The Mighty Yak band, jumping castles as well for the kids and of course the popular races.
“Having the opportunity to raise money for Country Hope is a really great opportunity to support others in our community who are doing it a bit tougher than others.
“It’s going to be a beautiful day as well on Saturday so we’re encouraging everyone to bring their families together and enjoy what’s going to be a really fun day out.”
Mr Buggy said the team at the Murrumbidgee Turf Club (MTC) always jumped at the opportunity to host the event, which had become a mainstay on Wagga’s racing calendar.
“The team at the MTC are always super easy to work with; they’re always happy to help with whatever we need to do and very supportive of all the ideas that we come up with.
“It really helps create that family dynamic that we’re striving for when holding the picnic races.”
As a member of the Country Hope committee, Mr Buggy said being able to help raise funds is one of his greatest privileges.
“It means a lot,” he said.
“It means a lot to myself and also the whole committee; there’s a lot of effort that we put in to raise as much funds as we possibly can for Country Hope. Everything raised from the races goes to Country Hope, which is what we strive for.”
“Knowing that these funds are going to be helping children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses as well as their families to support them, really does drive the committee. It really is about supporting them and making what is a very difficult time just that little bit easier.”
