Vortex Team Challenge boosts leadership and teamwork for Riverina businesses

Riverina businesses have been put to the test, challenging themselves and each other at Vortex Entertainment in Wagga.

The Vortex Team Challenge has been launched to bolster leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving skills for businesses, sporting groups, clubs, and organisations.

Facilitated by Major James Van Strijp from RJ Transformations, the three-hour experience is designed to help teams grow and thrive.

“We’ve crafted a program that delivers lasting benefits, and we hope that participants walk away feeling more connected and confident in their abilities to work together,” Major Van Strijp said.

“It is important in today’s environment that you have an effective and well-formed team to run a business. Teams are often challenged when they don’t communicate with each other as best they can.

“This program is designed to help break down some gaps, help form better teams, and improve internal communication.”

As part of the challenge, participants engage in a series of physical and mental challenges tailored to build trust, cooperation, and confidence, with activities including high ropes courses, team-building exercises, and blindfolded climbing.

Director and co-owner of Vortex Entertainment Adam Drummond told Region the inspiration to organise the new challenge came following discussions with his business contacts about the current economic uncertainty and its impact on local businesses.

“There’s a little bit of tightening of the purse strings, and consumers tend to pull back on some of their discretionary spending, and that has a major impact on small businesses locally and the economy in general,” Mr Drummond said.

“It leads to staff morale going down and maybe their hours being cut back as businesses try to save a bit of money.

“This would be a good way to get the team together, put a positive message out there, and give each other support in uncertain times.”

Mr Drummond said the team at Vortex participated in the challenge and had the “best time”.

“It was a challenge,” Mr Drummond said. “They had to do things blindfolded they’ve never done before.

“They had to solve problems in groups of 10, and it was good to see them work together. It will be a huge benefit for local businesses as well.”

Mr Drummond said the Vortex Team Challenge was more than just a fun day out — it was an investment in team development.

As a big supporter of local products, Mr Drummond decided to partner with Scott Pierce from Jungle Duke Hotel, Mathew Oates from Romanos Hotel and Jamie Pascoe from The Charles Dining.

“Three establishments in the hospitality industry coming together,” Mr Drummond said. “You don’t see that often, and I think it’s a positive thing we’re bringing to Wagga.”

He said the three-hour team building activity offered participants the opportunity to extend their experience by visiting the local partner establishments.

Vortex Team Challenge is open to all businesses, both within the Riverina and outside the area.
