A 20-year-old man has been denied bail after police allegedly located a backpack containing homemade firearms and ammunition in the Riverina.
Brandon Fitzgerald fronted Albury Local Court on Wednesday (18 September) and pleaded guilty to possessing an unauthorised firearm, two counts of possessing ammunition without a licence, goods suspected stolen in/on-premises and entering enclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse.
He pleaded not guilty to two counts of driving without the owner’s consent, driving a vehicle on the road without being licensed, and possessing implements to enter/drive a conveyance.
Fitzgerald made no applications for bail and it was formally denied by Magistrate Melissa Humphreys.
Police said officers were called to Wattle Way, Albury, following reports a man was armed with a weapon on Tuesday (17 September).
The man allegedly fled from police over a fence in Fern Place.
During the search, police located a backpack that allegedly contained a homemade firearm, ammunition, and implements allegedly used to break into homes. Several items reported as stolen were also allegedly located.
A short time later, Fitzgerald was arrested at home on Jacaranda Street, Albury.
During a search of the man, police allegedly located and seized ammunition and a number of allegedly stolen bank cards. Fitzgerald was later taken to Albury Police Station.
Fitzgerald is set to appear in Albury Local Court on 30 October.
