Three charged after alleged machete attack in North Albury

Two adults and a teenager have been charged following an alleged domestic violence-related assault in the Riverina.

Police said emergency services were called to North Street, North Albury, following reports of an alleged assault just after 8:40 pm on Thursday (12 September).

Officers attached to Murray River Police District were told two people – a man and a woman, both aged 19, were allegedly assaulted by three people armed with knives before the trio allegedly drove off in a black Ford sedan.

The man and woman were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene for facial and hand injuries before being taken to Albury Base Hospital. They’ve since been released.

Police established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the incident. The information provided indicated that all five people were known to each other.

Following inquiries, police arrested a 20-year-old man at about 7:40 pm on Friday (13 September) when he attended Albury Police Station.

He has been charged with two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm in the company of others (DV), and using an offensive weapon in company with intent to commit an indictable offence. The Wodonga man has been granted conditional bail to appear before Albury Local Court on 24 September.

The following day, a 20-year-old woman and a 17-year-old boy were also arrested at Albury Police Station at about 2:30 pm.

The woman from Wodonga has been charged with two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm in the company of others (DV) and use of an offensive weapon in the company with intent to indictable offence. She was also granted conditional bail to appear in Albury Local Court on 22 October.

The teenage boy has been charged with two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm in the company of others (DV), one count of using of an offensive weapon in company with intent to commit an indictable offence, and one count of possession/attempt to prescribe restricted substance. He’s been refused bail to appear before a children’s court on 15 September.
