Temora Shire invites all to the inaugural lantern festival by the picturesque banks of Lake Centenary.
The T-Light at Lake Centenary is a community event featuring paper lanterns, bonfires, local food, face painting, a jumping castle, fire twirling, fireworks and live music.
The event, by Temora Business Enterprise Group (TBEG), will be held on Saturday 27 August at Lake Centenary from 3 pm to 8:30 pm.
TBEG chairperson Mel Gallagher said the T-Light, postponed last year due to COVID-19, would bring the community together and highlight the beauty of the Lake Centenary area.
“We’ll be releasing the lanterns on water and have a get-together for the community to come and have fun,” Ms Gallagher said.
“People can purchase lanterns if they don’t have their own and we’ll push them onto the lake.”
Ms Gallagher said the preparations for the upcoming event were “going really well” and TBEG had secured $25,000 in funding from the State Government to host the event.
Ms Gallagher said the lantern event was a celebration of the people of Temora.
“We’re a resilient community and we’ve come through some tough times,” Ms Gallagher said.
“People are starting to get excited about the event.
“The community was disappointed when we had to cancel the event last year.”
Event organisers are inviting guests to walk along the lake loop track and stop to enjoy the fire pits which will be dotted around the lake’s edge.
Local food vendors will set up along the southern shore and there will be places to sit and enjoy music, food, flames and views.
Food vendors will include Temora Youth Team, Temora Girl Guides, Kin & Co, Sugar and Spice, Marrar Kitchen and Co, Simply GREAT Coffee Van and Coffee Bar on Hoskins Catering.
There will be live music by 1979 and Three Pistol Midnight and kids will enjoy a jumping castle and getting their faces painted.
At sunset, guests will be invited to light and release a biodegradable rice paper lantern upon the lake.
The finale of the evening will be a spectacular fireworks display on the north-western bank of the lake, which spectators will be able to view from all around the lake.
Guests are encouraged to bring their own blankets, chairs and cash to the event as not all vendors will have EFTPOS facilities.
The event is BYO and the organisers strictly ask that no glass be brought to the lake.
The lake will be closed to the public so even though the event is free, tickets must be purchased and shown before entry.
Guests are required to obtain tickets for the event here.
