Riverina’s chocolatiers are getting ready to roll out the chocolate carpet for a day of cocoa-induced bliss.

Junee Licorice and Chocolate Factory is set to throw the ultimate cocoa-fueled celebration for World Chocolate Day.

World Chocolate Day is celebrated annually on 7 July around the globe by chocoholics of all ages to honour the introduction of chocolate to Europe in the 16th century (1550s).

“I think World Chocolate Day should be every day,” said Junee Licorice and Chocolate Factory sales and marketing manager Rhiannon Druce. “It’s a great product, so why not celebrate it every day?

“A lot of the population celebrates chocolate each day but given that society only wants to appreciate it once, we make sure we put on a bit of a show for it.

“Sunday is World Chocolate Day, and we will be doing ‘make-your-own rocky road’ classes. Instead of regular freckle making, you can get even more hands-on with chocolate.”

Rhiannon said the class was a fun and interactive session for all ages.

“You can put on some gloves, add some marshmallows and melted chocolate, add the ingredients you want, and then mix it all together,” she said.

“And rather than people thinking that the freckles are a bit more for kids, the rocky road is definitely for all ages.

“It’s a fun thing to do … not only celebrate World Chocolate Day and get out and about on a nice winter’s day.”

On the day, visitors can indulge in hot chocolate made with real melted chocolate and added honeycomb, rocky road, orange, and other flavours, as well as limited edition hot chocolates and chocolates.

“We’re going to have live music, and it’s going to be a fun interactive day where you can overindulge in chocolate, have chocolate for breakfast and have no judgment,” Rhiannon said.

“I will start the day early with some chocolate and finish the day with some chocolate product with a nice glass of red wine. It will be a fun day seeing the public’s reaction to chocolate.

“We’ll be handing out limited edition products people might not have tried. We’ve got white chocolate-coated licorice with lemon powder dusting.”

Rhiannon said the renovations at the chocolate factory would be completed close to spring.

“Our freckle making room will become much bigger, and it’ll have a lot more to offer than our current offerings with hands-on chocolate experiences,” she said.

“It’s something the whole region should be really looking forward to.”

No bookings are required for rocky road making classes.

Junee Licorice and Chocolate Factory is celebrating World Chocolate Day on Sunday 7 July, from 9 am to 4 pm. Bookings are essential for the restaurant.
