Murrumbidgee Police have allegedly found an ice pipe and three bags of a clear crystal substance in a Griffith woman’s car after she was stopped for a roadside test.
Inspector Glenn Smith informed Region the incident allegedly occurred at around 11 pm on Sunday (23 June).
Police stopped a white Ford Ranger on Kywong Street to conduct a breath test. Officers approached the vehicle and sighted a 43-year-old female in the driver’s seat and a male in the front passenger seat.
Police introduced themselves to the accused and asked her to produce her licence. The driver took a breath test, which produced a negative result. The accused driver’s licence was then checked, which revealed that she was a disqualified driver.
Officers then searched the vehicle and allegedly found a backpack which contained two clear plastic bags containing a crystal substance that appeared to be methamphetamine on the driver’s seat. Police alleged they also located an ice pipe and several small resealable bags – one containing small amounts of a crystal substance; as well as a set of digital weighing scales under the front passenger seat.
The 43-year-old woman was arrested and taken back to Griffith police station.
Police say they weighed the three bags containing the clear crystal substance in the presence of the accused, which returned a gross weight of 21 grams, 28.6 grams and 0.03 grams.
The female driver was charged with driving a motor vehicle during the disqualification period, supplying a prohibited drug at a level greater than the indictable quantity and possessing a prohibited drug.
