Nine things to do in the Riverina this week (14 - 20 June)

It’s the third weekend of the month, which means the regional markets come out to play.

Griffith, Tarcutta and Wagga have markets on different days, which means no matter where you are in the Riverina you have the chance to check out plenty of awesome local products.

There are plenty of opportunities to get physical this weekend as well with the roller disco, orienteering and miniature railway all operating.

If something more relaxing is what you’re after, Drag Bingo, a show at the theatre or a movie at Forum 6 may be the way to go.

Regardless of the vibe you’re chasing or the type of activity you’re hunting, there is plenty to do this weekend in the Riverina.

Forum 6 Cinemas

Cost: Various. Tickets can be purchased at Forum 6.

Forum 6 is once again delivering the goods in the movie department, this time with the brand-new Pixar film Inside Out 2 and an all-star cast filled horror in The Exorcism. So whether you’re up for tears or fears, Forum 6 has got you covered. Also showing this week are Haikyu: The Dumpster Battle, Unsung Hero, The Watchers, Bad Boys 4, Garfield and many more.

Saturday Night Roller Discos!

When: Saturday 15 June, 7 to 9 pm
Where: Bolton Park Stadium
Cost: $15 entry + $5 skate hire.

Twin City Skate, the largest roller-skating club in NSW, runs regular Saturday night roller discos in Wagga. Think cool tunes, fancy lighting and a giant disco ball. Bring your own skates or hire them at the venue.

Where: The Curious Rabbit, 44 Johnston Street
Cost: $25.

No longer is bingo the gentle sport of the elderly – at The Curious Rabbit you’ll experience classic bingo with a major twist. Your host will guide you through the game with non-stop comedy and entertainment. Enter as a solo competitor or bring your mates and family. Where: Griffith Central, Yambil Street, Griffith
Cost: Whatever you are prepared to spend.

A great way to shop local in Griffith is to head along to Griffith Central’s monthly Market Day.

Tarcutta Markets are every third Saturday of each month.

Tarcutta Markets

When: Saturday 15 June, 8 am – 1 pm
Where: Tarcutta Soldiers Memorial Hall, Sydney Street, Tarcutta
Cost: Free entry.

Rug up and head to Tarcutta for the markets where you can browse a range of homegrown produce, locally made creations, preloved books, plants, accessories and much more. Grab a snack from the barbecue, or some sandwiches, cakes and drinks while you browse.

Waggaroos Orienteering Winter Series

When: Sunday 16 June, 10 to 11 am
Where: Various locations. This month’s meeting is at CSU Wagga Campus’s Carpark 5
Cost: $9.

Waggaroos is an orienteering club with regular local events in bush and urban environments. Orienteering is a sport that combines outdoor adventure with map reading and navigational skills. It involves navigating the bush, parks, or streets with the aid of a specially produced map and an orienteering compass, with the aim being to locate checkpoints (controls) on various natural and man-made features along the way, such as a boulder, track junction, bench seat or streetlamp.

Willans Hill Miniature Railway Rides

When: Sunday 16 June, 10:30 am to 2:30 pm
Where: Wagga Wagga Botanic Gardens
Cost: $4 per ride.

Situated in the Botanic Gardens, the model railway runs through the gardens and features an authentic station and booking office. The track runs through woodlands, a tunnel and over a bridge. The railway was established in 1978 by Raymond Catts, who advertised for interested persons to form a club for the display and use of models. Rides are operating on the first and third Sundays of the month.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream

When: Tuesday 18 June, 7:30 to 10 pm
Where: Wagga Wagga Civic Theatre
Cost: Adult $70, concession/member $65, group 4+ $65, youth under 25 $40, child under 15 $29.

Shakespeare’s classic comedy, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, is reawakened in this production brimming with magic, mirth and mayhem. This production is quick as a shadow. Fast, funny and family-friendly, this is A Midsummer Night’s Dream reimagined. Directed by Peter Evans, this is one show that shouldn’t be missed.
