Police appeal for information about cars engulfed in fire on Griffith’s ‘Prod Straight’

Griffith Police are appealing to the public for information about two four-wheel drives that were found engulfed in fire in an area known as ‘Prod Straight’, where privately-owned vehicles are parked all day and night while they are advertised for sale.

Inspector Glenn Smith told Region a witness travelling along Banna Avenue towards McDonalds saw a white Holden Colorado and a white Ford Ranger on fire at about 1:40 am on Friday (19 April).

The witness called triple zero. Police and Fire and Rescue NSW Griffith Station rescue crew quickly arrived on the scene and extinguished the blaze within 30 minutes.

Due to the intensity of the fire, a third vehicle, a silver Ford sedan, was damaged as well.

Police are treating the fire as suspicious and are urging any members of the public who may have information or any dash cam or CCTV footage in relation to this to please contact Griffith Police Station on 6969 4299 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Prod Straight gained its name from being near the site of an iconic co-operative called Griffith Producers, which stored and sold fruit and vegetables. Used cars being sold privately now line the stretch of road outside the former business, which is on the town’s main street.
