Choosing to play a sport can be a tricky task.
On the one hand, you have to decide how competitive or social you want to be; on the other, deciding to play a winter or summer sport can dictate what and where you play.
Luckily for the people of Wagga Wagga, we have Wagga Indoor Sports.
Thanks to Gavin Morden and his team at the popular Nagle Street venue, people looking to participate in their favourite sports can do so year-round regardless of ability.
“We host soccer, netball, cricket and volleyball all through the week with competitions for boys, girls, juniors and mixed teams,” Gavin said.
“It’s all about social fun, you don’t have to be a world champion to play and enjoy sport.
“If you sign up as an individual, we can find you a team as well. We have so many newcomers each season. Wagga has a very transient population with uni students up at CSU, as well as Kapooka and the RAAF, so there are always people looking to join in.”
Unlike other sporting venues, Wagga Indoor Sports doesn’t ask for season fees. You pay for the nights you play, with costs from $8 for volleyball up to $15 for soccer.
“You’re not committing for a long period of time,” Gavin said.
“You can play for as long as you want, but come and give it a go. You may play soccer one week and say, ‘Hey, that’s not for me’ but then give volleyball a go and love it. That’s the great thing about indoor sports, you can give anything a go without committing too much time and money.”
Gavin took the helm of Wagga Indoor Sports in 2020 following the owner’s decision to take the facility in a new direction. Gavin’s passion for all kinds of sports has helped create a fun and judgement-free environment for anyone to enjoy.
“We aim to have a very relaxed, very social environment,” Gavin said.
“A lot of people come to play just to catch up with people they normally wouldn’t get the chance to. A lot of people come for an hour or so a week, just to play something in an enjoyable environment. While we do have divisions for certain sports, it really is built on creating a fun environment.”
While being the home of indoor sports, 26 Nagle St is also the home of Inflatable World. Inflatable World is one of the biggest inflatable playgrounds in the country and is open most weekends of the year.
“Inflatable World is a fun time for everyone,” Gavin said.
“It’s great for birthday parties, family days [not just the kids] or just a group of friends catching up. Pricing is $18 for people over four years old and that pays for a two-hour session, although we can do private sessions a bit cheaper for 90 minutes.
“We run Inflatable World most weekends and all through the school holidays. It really is a lot of fun.”
So, whether you’re looking to stay active while beating the heat, looking for a winter warmer or just a way to keep up with mates, why not head to Wagga Indoor Sports, say g’day to Gavin and the team and try one of the fun weekly sports and activities.
