Bail refused for Albury man charged over alleged stabbing at shopping centre

A 31-year-old Albury man has been refused bail after being charged over an alleged stabbing incident in the city.

Jack McCahon fronted Albury Local Court on 1 February charged with allegedly wounding a person with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, affray and using a knife in a public place causing a person to fear for safety.

Magistrate Melissa Humphreys formally refused his bail and set his next court appearance for 26 March.

Police said officers from the Murray River Police District responded around 6 pm on Tuesday, 30 January, to reports of an alleged stabbing at a shopping centre in Smollett Street, Albury.

At the scene, NSW Ambulance paramedics treated a 35-year-old man with wounds to his back. He was taken to Albury Base Hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

Following inquiries, McCahon and a woman were arrested at a home in Ryan Road, Glenroy, about 12:30 am on 31 January.

They were taken to Albury Police Station.

The 24-year-old woman was charged with affray.

She was granted conditional bail, to appear in Albury Local Court on 21 February.
