Riverina MP's police officer son charged with assault

The police officer son of former deputy prime minister Michael McCormack has been charged following an alleged assault in Sydney.

Police said officers from Kings Cross Police Area Command responded to reports of an alleged assault on William Street, Darlinghurst, at about 12:50 am on 26 November.

Constable Nicholas McCormack, 26, who is attached to a specialist command, was arrested at the scene and taken to Kings Cross Police Station.

He was charged with three counts of common assault, and common assault (domestic violence).

The officer’s employment status is currently under review.

Investigations into the matter are continuing.

Constable McCormack was granted conditional bail to appear at the Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday (13 December).
