Three people set to face court following firearm inspection

Two men and a woman will face court next year following a safe storage inspection in Jerilderie earlier this month.

Police said Rural Crime Prevention Team investigators attended a property in Jerilderie to conduct a safe storage inspection around 2:30 pm on 4 November.

During the inspection, officers allegedly located a rimfire magazine and an unlocked firearm safe, with four firearms unaccounted for.

A man, 68, and a woman, 71, were given a firearms licence notice of suspension before police allegedly seized five firearms, ammunition and the rimfire magazine, a prohibited weapon.

Police attended the property the next day, where the woman allegedly surrendered a further firearm.

Following inquiries, about 4 pm on Saturday (11 November), investigators attended the property and served future court attendance notices to the 68-year-old man, the 71-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man.

The 68-year-old was charged with nine counts of not keeping prohibited firearms safely, five counts of not having approved storage, three counts of failing to produce a registered firearm for inspection on demand and possessing a prohibited weapon without a permit.

The woman was charged with six counts of not keeping prohibited firearms safely and four counts of not having approved storage.

The 35-year-old man was charged with eight firearms offences and failing to notify a change of address as a permit holder.

The trio will appear at Finley Local Court on Wednesday, 14 February 2024.
