Driver charged after allegedly clocking 165 km/h and blowing more than three times the legal limit

A 53-year-old man has been caught allegedly driving at 65 km/h over the speed limit and drink driving.

Police alleged Albury Highway Patrol detected a Toyota Camry travelling southbound in Culcairn going 165 km/h in a 100 km/h zone around 10:50 am on Sunday (29 October).

The Tasmanian driver was breath tested, with results allegedly returning a positive reading.

The man was arrested and taken to Albury Police Station for a breath analysis. The test results returned an alleged reading of 0.171 – more than three times the legal blood alcohol limit.

Police issued the driver an infringement notice for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45 km/h and a field court attendance notice for driving with high-range PCA.

The driver’s Tasmanian driver’s licence was suspended in New South Wales for six months. He is set to appear before Albury Local Court at a later date.
