The line-up for Wagga’s 2023 FUSION BOTANICAL multicultural festival has been announced, with Sydney-based group Bare Necessities Collective headlining the event.
The unique, multiculture-inspired group will be joined by Munasib and Clypso to bring a variety of electric and DJ-style tunes to Brogola Ponds on Saturday, 21 October.
Wagga Wagga City Council director of community Janice Summerhayes said the festival had proven to be a community favourite in previous years.
“FUSION BOTANICAL has grown to be one of the city’s biggest outdoor events, with thousands of residents and visitors from across the region and beyond soaking in the sights, sounds and scents,” Ms Summerhayes said.
“We have curated an exciting and eclectic line-up with some of the country’s most creative and talented DJs and artists.”
Ms Summerhayes also announced that along with the headlining and supporting acts, there would also be a mix of other entertaining activities, including Silent Disco Walking Tours, interactive roving acts, outdoor play experiences including giant lawn games, as well as miniature railway rides and community performers.
“You will want to arrive hungry at FUSION BOTANICAL multicultural festival, with more than 25 traditional street food and drink vendors operating in the much-loved World Food Village,” she said.
”The full details will be announced in the coming weeks.”
Wagga Council is encouraging locals to come to the Botanic Gardens on 21 October between 4 pm and 9:30 pm to enjoy a range of street foods, culturally diverse musicians and a buzzing festival atmosphere.
Fusion Botanical Headline Acts
Bare Necessities Collective – An energetic group displaying unstoppable DJ skills, frenetic dancing, blaring trumpets, and thumping percussion.
Munasib (DJ set) – The Australian-born Bengali DJ marks a sea change in Australian dance culture, reflecting the country’s multiculturalism with sets that as easily include Bollywood beats as Vince Staples’ Norf Norf.
Clypso (DJ set) – Clypso is a Sydney-based producer and vocalist, whose sound is a collage of hyperactive beats, basslines and global tropical music culture-inspired electronica, or as she describes it, “troppo chilli flakes”.
Giant Loose Parts Play – Brought to you by Reverse Garbage, this outdoor exploration of creativity and adventure presents children with a kit of open-ended items that can be moved, carried, combined, redesigned, lined up, and taken apart and put back together in countless ways.
Guru Dudu’s Silent Disco Walking Tours – These feature spontaneous flash mobs, interpretative dance, group singing and lots of fun interaction with onlookers. Everyone wears headphones tuning in to a hilarious guided tour through a select playlist of uplifting dance favourites from the 1970s to the modern era.
Heap: Taking Compost to Great Heights – Presented by Terrapin Puppet Theatre, this new roving performance takes the inner life of compost to great heights – literally! It features an ambitious amateur horticulturalist and a giant, unwieldy compost creature.
The festival is a free community event funded and presented by Wagga Wagga City Council.
