A man has been questioned by police after officers allegedly found an empty Ford Falcon in Leeton with smoke coming out from the rear tyre.
At 12:25 am on Wednesday (11 February), police were driving along Mimosa Street when they approached the intersection of Blackwood Street and allegedly saw a thick layer of smoke filling the street.
Officers drove along Blackwood Street and noticed a large number of fresh tyre marks on the road.
At this time, police saw a white Ford Falcon sedan pull into the driveway of a house on this street. They stopped and approached the car, which was parked in the rear of the property.
During this time, police will further allege they could smell burnt rubber emanating from the car and observed the rear tyres to be destroyed, with smoke coming from them. However, when they looked inside the Falcon, no one was inside it.
Officers called out to the residents inside the house and a 30-year-old man came appeared.
Police will further allege they spoke with the man about the car being involved in burnouts, and he confirmed he was the vehicle’s owner.
Officers handed the man a form of demand, which required him to tell them the name and address of the driver of the vehicle at the time of the alleged offence.
Police will allege the man refused to disclose the identity of the driver.
The man was then informed he would be receiving an infringement notice for the offence of “being a responsible person/custodian not disclosing driver details”. This offence carries a fine of $1079.
