Murrumbidgee police have issued a defect notice to the Goolgowi driver of a car with multiple deficiencies, including three tyres of different sizes. Officers also allegedly found drugs and a knife in the vehicle.

About 4:15 pm on Wednesday (4 February), a traffic patrol stopped a green Holden Commodore travelling south along Kidman Way in Merriwagga for a random breath test.

The 25-year-old Goolgowi driver was tested and returned a negative result.

Officers will allege they saw that the car had different-sized tyres on the front compared with the back. They also noticed that the front and rear panels were loose and held on by cable ties.

Police then told the driver that his car was to be inspected to determine whether its condition was roadworthy.

While inspecting the Commodore, an officer observed it had not two but three different-sized tyres.

The front passenger-side tyre was larger than the others and non-compliant with the make of the car.

The tyres were bald and appeared to have gravel rash marks through the remaining tread.

The engine had oil leaks that pooled in the pan under the engine, the exhaust was non-compliant, there were loose panels on the front and rear, and the radiator cap was cracked.

During the vehicle inspection, police will allege, the occupants told officers there was cannabis in the glove box.

An officer opened the box, and police will allege they found a green, leafy substance suspected to be cannabis.

The driver was cautioned and questioned about the substance, telling police that it was his cannabis and that he had a script for it.

Police will further allege that while searching the car’s boot, the passenger told police that he had a knife in it.

An officer located the knife in the wheel well. The passenger was cautioned and questioned about the knife.

The knife was seized by police, and the passenger was issued with a field court attendance notice for having custody of a knife in a public place.

Police issued a major defect notice on the vehicle.
