Residents across the Riverina and Far South Coast will be encouraged to look to the skies this Anzac Day as the Royal Australian Air Force conducts flying displays across the regional centres.
Temora-based aircraft from the No 100 Air Force Heritage Squadron will begin a schedule of “flypasts” across the Riverina starting from 9 am at Uranquinty.

Peter Harper, from the Temora Aviation Museum, says they will have two classic planes in the sky.
“The Supermarine Spitfire Mk VIII is the first aircraft,” he says.
“It’s pretty much going down to the Victorian border and covering quite a bit of ground. But it can get along at about 220 knots (407 km), so it can go a long way very quickly!
“The second aircraft is the CAC Wirraway and it’s still doing a lot of towns but those towns that are more local to us in Temora.”

Residents in Bega and Merimbula will get a chance to see the RAAF’s high-tech E-7A Wedgetail in action.
This serving intelligence aircraft assists with maritime warfare, surveillance and battlespace management.
A RAAF spokesperson said the flying display was a show of support for Anzac Day commemorations.

“Anzac Day is a time to reflect on the contribution made by past and present service personnel who have displayed great courage, discipline and self-sacrifice in choosing a life of service to their country,” the spokesperson said.
