Wagga man arrested for alleged involvement with organised crime network

A Wagga man is one of six people who NSW Police have arrested for their alleged involvement in an Organised Criminal Network (OCN), in which the Sydney-based onshore leader of the group was charged with soliciting and conspiring to murder two men.

At 9:30 am on Tuesday (16 December), strike force detectives attended Wagga Wagga Police Station and arrested a 23-year-old man.

He was charged with two counts of possessing an unauthorised pistol, two counts of possessing an unregistered firearm-pistol, two counts of acquiring a pistol-subject to a firearms prohibition order, reckless wounding, affray, eleven counts of supplying prohibited drugs on an ongoing basis, seven charges relating to the supply of prohibited drugs, possessing or attempting to prescribe a restricted substance, knowingly dealing with the proceeds of crime, participating in a criminal group contributing to criminal activity and failing to comply with a digital evidence access order direction.

The man was refused bail to appear in Parramatta Local Court on Thursday (18 December).

Strike force detectives also made a number of raids in Sydney and arrested five other suspects.

Over the course of the investigation, detectives established the group’s Sydney-based onshore leader was allegedly responsible for soliciting the murder of a 27-year-old man who had defected from the group, as well as conspiring to murder one of his associates at Kogarah Bay in August.

At 6 am Tuesday (16 December), strike force detectives executed six search warrants in Croydon Park, Merrylands, Austral, Lidcombe, and South Granville.

At a Croydon Park address, police arrested a 32-year-old man. He was taken to Burwood Police Station, where he was charged with conspiring and agreeing to murder any person, encouraging and persuading etc to murder, recruiting a child to carry out or assist a criminal activity, knowingly directing the activities of a criminal group and a string of other charges.

The man was refused bail and appeared in Burwood Local Court on Wednesday (17 December).

In Austral, police arrested a man and woman, both 34. They were taken to Liverpool Police Station, where police charged them with a number of drug-related offences. They both appeared in Liverpool Local Court on Wednesday.

In Lidcombe, police arrested a 34-year-old man. He was taken to Auburn Police Station, where he was charged with a number of drug offences.

The man was refused bail and appeared in Burwood Local Court on Wednesday (17 December).

At an address in Merrylands, police arrested a 40-year-old man. He was taken to Granville Police Station, where he was charged with a number of drug-related offences.

The man was refused bail to appear in Parramatta Local Court on Wednesday (17 December).
