Murrumbidgee Police have apprehended a disqualified driver who allegedly jumped into a dried-up canal and hid in bushland after being stopped by officers.

At 1:32 pm on Friday (28 November), police were conducting proactive patrols in the Yanco township when an officer observed a Silver Ford Falcon utility travelling on Irrigation Way.

Police conducted a U-turn behind the vehicle and caught up to it about one kilometre outside the Yanco township.

As officers got closer, they stopped the ute on the side of Irrigation Way.

Police will allege the driver got out of the driver’s seat of the vehicle and jumped into a small dried-up canal and ran into bushland. He was wearing a bright blue t-shirt at the time.

Officers yelled out to the man several times, however, he continued to attempt to hide.

The man was then charged with driving while disqualified.
