A disqualified driver has been charged with a string of offences after Murrumbidgee Police allegedly caught him making an illegal pass of a vehicle in Griffith last week.
At about 11:40 am on Thursday (6 November), officers were patrolling Wakaden Street in Griffith and approached the roundabout at the intersection of Blumer Avenue.
Police will allege they observed a white four-wheel drive vehicle travelling eastbound through the roundabout. Police sighted a grey Mazda hatchback following very closely to the rear of the four-wheel drive.
Police will further allege that, at the roundabout, they sighted the Mazda “undertake” the white four-wheel drive, which means illegally overtaking a vehicle on its left side.
Officers allege the Mazda then drove at high speed eastbound on Wakaden Street and then on Rankins Springs Road. Police caught up to the vehicle, activating lights and sirens to stop the 21-year-old driver.
Police conducted checks on the registration of the Mazda. These checks allegedly showed the vehicle was unregistered and the owner of the vehicle was a disqualified driver.
Officers spoke with the driver and asked him to produce his licence. Police will allege the driver initially gave them a false first name.
The driver was cautioned and placed under arrest. After this, the accused admitted that he was in fact the owner of the vehicle, police said.
The driver was taken to Griffith Police Station, where his identity was confirmed.
Further checks allegedly showed the driver had his licence disqualified.
The driver was then charged with driving a motor vehicle during the disqualification period, stating a false name, driving an unregistered vehicle on the road and using an uninsured motor vehicle on road.

A great explanation. Thanks very much. View
