Summertime is nigh, meaning we all get to look on at Narrandera and Leeton with envy as the towns open the two premier aqua facilities in the Riverina, which offer spectacular waterslides.

But if you’re not fussy and just want to get wet, all outdoor swimming pools across the Riverina will be open by next week.

Public pools in Coleambally, Darlington Point and Jerilderie will reopen for the summer season on Saturday (1 November) and operating hours are: Tuesdays to Fridays (6 to 10 am, and 1 to 7 pm), Saturdays and Sundays (9 am to 7 pm).

Most other pools opened in October. Here is an update on where you can go to beat the heat.

Narrandera

The Lake Talbot Water Park officially reopened on 4 October and facilities include three swimming pools, an interactive splash park with a tipping bucket, flume and race water slides, terraced lawns and shaded areas and barbecue facilities.

Opening hours for weekdays are 6:30 to 8 am, then 10 am to 7 pm; during weekends and public holidays (aside from Christmas Day) the park is open from 10 am to 7 pm.

Admission is free for children under three, $3 for anyone over 60 and $5 for everyone else. Season passes and slide passes are available here.

The Barellan Swimming Pool reopened on 18 October and facilities include a 25-metre and six-lane pool, new toddler’s pool with interactive water play features, shaded picnic areas, fully stocked kiosk and barbecue facilities.

Opening hours are 3 to 7 pm for Wednesdays to Fridays, noon to 7 pm on weekends. During Christmas holidays they are open from noon to 8 pm every day except Christmas Day.

Admission is free for children under four, $4 for anyone between five and 18 and over 60, and $5 for anyone between 19 and 59. Spectators will be charged $2. Season passes and slide passes are available here.

Leeton

The waterslide and kiosk in the Leeton Regional Aquatic Centre will reopen on 1 November and facilities include a 10-lane 50-metre solar-heated Olympic pool, nine-metre-high twin ring waterslide, gas heated learn-to-swim area, splash pad and barbecue facilities.

Operating hours are 6 to 7:30 am and 1 to 7:30 pm during weekdays; 8 to 10 am and 1 to 7:30 pm during weekends.

Visitors can purchase a 10-visit pass for $58, otherwise it is $6.60 per entry.

Wagga

Wagga may be the biggest city in the Riverina but it’s the poor cousin when it comes to water-based recreation.

The outdoor pool at the Oasis Aquatic Centre is open year-round but with separate operating hours for summer and winter.

During summer (September to April) opening hours are 6 am to 9 pm on weekdays, and 7:30 am to 6 pm on weekends.

Facilities include 10 50-metre lanes, full competition facilities and solar heating.

Admission for casual entries or multi-visit passes can be found here.

Griffith

Griffith Regional Aquatic & Leisure Centre reopened on 1 October, but will be closed on 4 November for Union Picnic Day.

Opening hours are 6 am to 8 pm during weekdays, 8 am to 6 pm on Saturdays and 10 am to 5 pm on Sundays.

Information on admissions can be found here.
