Six young people have copped a warning from Murrumbidgee Police after they were caught ringing doorbells and running away late at night in the Griffith suburb of Collina.

At about 2 am on Sunday (26 October), police received a call from a member of the public stating that persons were seen on Tucker Street looking as if they were attempting to break into a house.

Officers attended a short time later and patrolled the area, locating a group of six young persons that matched the description given by the caller.

Police questioned the suspects who initially denied being at the location. However, when informed they had been captured on CCTV footage, they admitted to playing ‘ding, dong, ditch’, which involves knocking on people’s doors and running away.

“Police obtained details from the young people and explained to them at great length the fear and alarm that would cause residents at 2 am,” District Inspector Glenn Smith said.

The group were warned about their behaviour.

“This is an example of members of the public working with police and contacting officers at the time of the incident, so police could attend and locate the young persons in the vicinity,” District Inspector Smith said.
