A woman in Griffith has received a number of fines totalling more than $2000 after police found four unrestrained child passengers in her car.

At about 4:30 pm on Monday (6 October), officers stopped a driver for the purpose of a random breath test on Coolah Street. During the inspection of the vehicle, police allegedly observed four unrestrained children. Two children were allegedly not seated in a child restraint seat and two were seated in child seats but not restrained correctly.

Police will also allege she failed to display P-plates on her car. The 23-year-old provisional driver was issued with an infringement notice for not complying with a P2 license condition and not displaying P plates – which incurs a $330 fine and loss of two demerit points and driving with four or more passengers for whom their seatbelt/restraint was not properly adjusted/fastened, which incurs a $1784 fine and loss of six demerit points.

She also received an infringement notice for the use of a light vehicle that did not comply with standards, which incurred a fine of $140.
