Sods have been turned on the building of a major new hotel with 83 apartment-style rooms on Albury’s Dean Street, which is expected to be complete in 2026.
The Punthill Albury Apartment Hotel is being developed by longstanding hospitality venue the Commercial Club Albury, with construction by Premier Building Company and design and project management by Studio 35 Architecture.
It’s part of the Veriu Group brand, a hospitality company which bought up the chain of Puntill hotels in major cities across Australia in 2018.
“This project adds important capacity to our local accommodation market,” Commercial Club General Manager Jeff Duck said.
“It will support events, education, tourism, and business, and contribute to the city’s long-term vibrancy.”
The hotel’s central location places it within reach of local restaurants and Charles Sturt University.
“The new property aims to fill a recognised gap in Albury’s accommodation offering — particularly for contemporary, apartment-style rooms suitable for both short stays and extended visits. The hotel will include a mix of studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, all featuring kitchens, laundry facilities, and smart TVs,” a Veriu Group press release stated.
“Other facilities will include a lobby lounge and reception, two conference rooms, a gym, secure parking, and a guest pantry — positioning the hotel as a potential go-to option for both business and leisure visitors.”

Mayor Kevin Mack and local MP Justin Clancy joined project partners at the launch, which included representatives from the Commercial Club, the builder, and the hotel’s operator.
The Punthill Albury project forms part of a broader pipeline of hotel development across Australia’s regional and metropolitan centres.
“Strategically we’ve always sought to grow the Punthill portfolio by opening in locations supported by major sources of corporate room night demand,” Veriu Group CEO, Zed Sanjana said.
“Albury is a major regional hub that continues to see strong demand for modern, flexible accommodation. With its central CBD location, Punthill Albury will deliver exactly the type of premium apartment hotel our brand is known for — combining the luxuries of a hotel with the convenience of flexible living spaces within the apartment design required by both corporate and leisure guests. This is not just an investment in a hotel, but in the future growth of Albury as a destination of choice.”
Punthill Albury is part of Veriu Group’s ambitious national growth strategy, which is targeting 80 hotels across Australia in the coming years. The commencement of work at Punthill Albury takes to six the number of new hotels under construction across metropolitan and regional centres, including Shepparton (VIC), Adelaide CBD (SA), Ryde (NSW), Epping (NSW) and South Yarra (VIC).
“Punthill Albury will build on the success of our extended-stay model, offering apartment hotels that meet the needs of our valued corporate guests,” Mr Sanjana said.
