A passerby in Narrandera has helped police apprehend a man who allegedly tested positive for drugs while driving after he failed to stop when pulled over by police.
About 4:10 pm last Tuesday (2 September), police were patrolling in Narrandera when they saw a silver Ford Territory being driven by an suspended driver.
Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver failed to obey, triggering a police pursuit.
The Territory turned into the rear car park of the Coles shopping centre, before attempting to drive down a laneway and stopping.
The driver then exited the vehicle and fled on foot along Bolton Street, onto East Street and Richards Lane before police caught up to him and he was taken to the ground.
The driver struggled with the police before he was handcuffed with the help of a member of the public.
Police will allege a check of records showed the driver is currently disqualified from driving.
The man was breath-tested for alcohol, which returned a negative result. He was also subjected to a drug test, which allegedly produced a positive result.
The man was then charged with a police pursuit, failing to stop, driving recklessly and driving a motor vehicle while his licence was disqualified.
